Congratulating Costanzo and the family of Canfora for celebrating 70th anniversary of my favorite sandals, which have allowed me to dress stylish and comfortable in the past twenty-something summers. Canfora was born in 1946 in Capri, just as WWII came to its end, and Europe’s royals, artists, intellectuals, and actors had rediscovered the Italian island off the Amalfi Coast. It was when Amedeo Canfora opened a tiny shop, crafting the most beautiful sandals that look like costume jewelry for the feet. Canfora’s sandals became so sensational, that tourists visiting Capri made into a must stop. Princess Margaret, Maria Callas, and Grace Kelly were just a few of the famous clients that made Canfora a part of their regular summer look. But it was Jackie Kennedy, the American First Lady, who discovered Canfora in 1962, and who had made it into one of the world’s most famous sandals. Amedeo was so fond of Kennedy, who visited the show again and again over the years that created the famed K sandals especially for her. Today, Costanzo, Amadeo’s talented and charismatic grandson manages the business, and together with his mother, helps stylish woman all over the world to feel great and fresh in the summer.
