Many people dream about living in a house of fantasy, but there is only one, an apartment on Via Washington in Milan, which is called Casa di Fantasia; it was designed by Gio Ponti for Arredamento Lucano in 1952 . Now, that Phillips London in collaboration with Italian auction house Cambi for the sale of its contents, it is a great opportunity to revisit this iconic interior, which had come to capture Ponti’s love for the surreal, and the oeuvre of Italian mid-century designers, who always sought to merge crafts and design. One of Ponti’s milestones, his ability to conduct complex projects had received a full expression in the pieces created by such artists and craftspeople as Piero Fornasetti, Edina Altara, and Giordano Chiesa, who under the his guidance, succeeded to craft this metaphysical scenery. Phillips has recreated the interior in its London showroom, represented by the color photos. Images courtesy of Phillips. Images in black-and-white are courtesy of Archives Gio Ponti.
