TWA: Traveling in Style

The TWA Flight Center, as it was called when first opened to the public in 1962 was brilliantly designed by Eero Saarinen and has been considered an architectural masterpiece of the mid-century years. It came to symbolize the spirit of hope, progress, and prosperity of the Jet Age. Is has not been operated since 2001, when security systems has transformed following 9/11. Tomorrow evening, Storefront for Art and Architecture, an organization committed to the advancement of innovative and critical positions at the intersection of architecture, art, and design, will be holding its 2016 Spring Benefit at the iconic terminal in what will be the last public event to be held there before it will enter its redevelopment. The benefit will honor Ezra Stoller whose magical photos came to present TWA and its building in all of their glory, as providers of a glamorous travel experience. So if you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day during the day, and if you have a free evening tomorrow, go to TWA, contribute to Storefront, and experience, for the last time the iconic modernity that inspired and shaped mid-century travel.
