This double-breasted pink suit, also known as simply the ‘Pink Suit,’ has become an integral part of the American collective memory. It was worn by Jackie Kennedy in Dallas on that infamous day, November 22nd, 1963, which had come to change American history. The blood-soaked suit was worn by Kennedy for the swearing of President Lyndon B. Johnson on Air Force One on the way back to Washington D.C., about two hours after her Kennedy was assassinated.
Since it was donated by Caroline Kennedy in 2003, the suit is kept at the National Archives, but it will not be available for viewing until 2103, I have read this week. Often mistaken for Chanel, the ‘watermelon-pink’ suit was in fact an approved copy from the French fashion house, which showed this suit for its 1961 fall/winter collection, by the New-York-based shop Chez Ninon.
