While numerous design schools will be presented in Milan during the upcoming Salone del Mobile, one of the more interesting exhibition will be featured by the Departments of Furniture Design and Textiles of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Exhibited at the Triennale International Exhibition Milan, the show consists of pieces of furniture by students, all of which demonstrate freshness and multidisciplinary use of materials. In the show, entitled “The Narrative of Making,” the material stands at the forefront while the use of textiles methods of weaving, knitting, knotting, and crocheting is truly inspiring. “The furniture in The Narrative of Making tells a visual story about how it was made. In each. “By focusing on authentic construction principles and accentuating the haptic qualities of the material, students present objects that allow for a deeper emotional attachment, contrasting the world of concealed consumer goods,” as suggested by Associate Professor Lothar Windels.
