On Good Design

‘Good design,’ I open an article, published in the weekend by Corriere dela Sera,’ is the product of culture and of an excellent education.’ This line summarizes my philosophy that great taste and good design cannot exist without great education. When asked to create a list of the most intriguing talents in the world of design, I have included London-based Fredrikson and Stallard; French designer Mathieu Lehanneur, who has recreates the spirit of nature by using digital technology; Los-Angels-based David Weiseman who has revived porcelain in the most contemporary way; Dutch star-designer Joris Laarman; and Jony Ive from Apple. When asked about the world’s best design schools, I have named Central Saint Martins; RISD; and Design Academy Eindhoven. When it comes to Italian design and those who formulated its DNA in the decades following WWII, I have suggested Carlo Mollino, Gio Ponti, Gino Levi-Montalcini, and Osvaldo Borsani.
