In everything she does, whether it is her product and graphic designs, her TV show, the books she has published, and her life with design in Philadelphia, Lisa Roberts’ motto, her philosophy is that design is for everyone. To Roberts, for design to be good, it has to be affordable, accessible, and understandable. As a trustee of both the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she understands all design, but her heart, her passion is in industrial design.
Her new book, ‘Mr. Waffles loves Design’ is based on an amusing and playful narrative, telling the story of Mr. Waffles, a shelter cat living with his grandparents in a home filled with icons of modern design. Through the cat’s curiosity, Roberts visits her vast collection of design, showcasing the direction in contemporary design, teaches her readers how to ‘read’ objects, and reveals that ultimately, it is possible for anyone to live with good design. The book is published by Canoe Press. To pre-order in Amazon.
