I am pleased to announce that registration to the fall edition of my program Collecting Design: History, Collections, Highlight (opens on October 3rd) at the New York School of Interior Design is open now. This season, I will host friends and colleagues who will share their expertise on various aspects of the collectible design market. Curator James Zemaitis will speak about Plywood and Modernism: Straight, Bent, and Laminated in celebrating the seminar show at the Victoria and Albert Museum ‘Plywood: Material of the Modern World,’ curated by Christopher Wilk; Steven Learner, founder of Collective Design Fair on the growing power of design fairs and the stories behind the scenes; artist Allan Wexler on the blurring boundaries between art and design; legendary dealer Mark McDonald, on his personal experience with legendary designers Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Eduard Wormley, Sam Maloof, and Otto Natzler; Paul Johnson on contemporary design; Jason T. Busch on the moment of contemporary and vintage ceramics. In addition to classes taking place at NYSID, we will be visiting a design fair, a preview at an auction house, and a gallery, gaining hands-on experience in the fascinating world of collectible design.
