‘Gravity’ by Fredrikson Stallard

I clearly remember the first time I had come across the sculptural furniture by British duo Fredrikson Stallard. The pieces, presented then by David Gill Gallery at Design Miami/ of 2006 were so innovative and intriguing, that I was overwhelmed, felt exactly how one should expect to feel when entering a museum and an art/design fair. I was not surprised to see some of the same pieces at the Victoria and Albert Museum a couple of years later, and their presence in design magazines featuring some of the world’s most beautiful homes has become regular. Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard began their collaboration in 1995 and have since become synonymous with the British avant-garde design of the 21st century, thanks to the dazzling pieces regularly shown by David Gill Gallery. Now, the Gallery has opened a new show featuring the new collection of Fredrikson Stallard, called, ‘Gravity, where a constant dialogue has been created between digital design and the use of unorthodox materials. Yet, the core of their work, which is characterized by spontaneous forms and interplay between the conceptual, the dramatic, and the playful, is bridging furniture and sculpture into one. In the new collection you would see such materials as acrylic, steel, velvet, sponge, all stand at the core of the forms themselves. The show will close on April 9th
