Congratulations, the brilliant and visionary designer Bruce Mau, recipient of the 2016 National Design Award for ‘Design Mind.’ It has been a great year for Mau who was also recognized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a recipient of its Collab Award which was marked by a wonderful exhibition ‘Work on What You Love: Bruce Mau Rethinking Design.’ Mau can be hardly called a designer as he is known for a broad approach that includes of visual identities, brand systems, books, packaging, trade shows, and exhibition graphics, which he has created for such clients as Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Herman Miller, Walt Disney Imagineering, the governments of Denmark, Guatemala, Panama, and Saudi Arabia, and architects Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, and SOM. Mau is recognized by the National Design Awards for laying the foundation for the new discipline of enterprise design, successfully applying his design thinking methodology to economic, cultural, governmental, environmental, and social change for internationally celebrated designers, leading companies, and countries around the world.
