May 27, 2022
As the design season nears its height, and England readies itself for the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II on June 2nd, marking the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1952, David Gill Gallery combines the two celebrations in one special show.
Curated by Francis Sultana, David Gill pays tribute to this iconic event, with pieces that express its narrative. Entitled ‘Platinum,’ this group exhibition is comprised of commissioned pieces inspired by HM The Queen, and by the lavish material and magical color of platinum. The works were created by the Gallery’s array of artists—Daniel Libeskind, Michele Oka Doner, Mattia Bonetti, Sebastian Brajkovic, Barnaby Barford, Valentin Loellmann, Milena Muzquiz, Sebastian Errazuriz, Barbara Nanning, Fredrikson Stallard and Chris Schanck—celebrating Her Majesty’s legacy.
It is always surprising to discover the eclectic range of vocabulary that falls under this umbrella. The pieces in soft metallic platinum-color feel at home at David Gill Gallery whose glory and influence in contemporary design was built around these talents. The curator, Francis Sultana has made his name with signature interiors in homes of art collectors, where he has undisputed expertise in collectible furniture and objects.
